Vericom Ignites Dynamic Communications

The Spark
Miami Children's Hospital is the largest
freestanding pediatric teaching hospital in the
Southeastern U.S., and the only licensed
specialty hospital in South Florida exclusively
for children. Miami Children’s Hospital has
been identified as one of the 25 best pediatric
hospitals in the nation. Miami Children’s
approach to marketing enables them to seize
unique and cost-effective promotional
opportunities in order to strengthen their
brand-awareness and support all other
marketing media.
Over 7 years ago, Vericom’s SoundCare® on hold messaging solution presented an
opportunity for Miami Children’s to reach
callers waiting on hold and in queue.
Recognizing a key marketing opportunity,
Marcia Diaz de Villegas, Director of Marketing
and Public Relations, brought SoundCare to
Miami Children’s. “Having used SoundCare at
another facility, I knew it was a cost-effective
communications product that would be able to
grow with our healthcare marketing needs
over the years. The product was also backed
by a company that provides excellent service,”
says Diaz de Villegas. |

Catching on Quickly
SoundCare helps the Miami Children’s
marketing department communicate more
effectively with their most critical audiences.Different departments within the hospital
frequently request to be spotlighted on
SoundCare in order to promote their own
services, programs, and initiatives.
Using SoundCare messages alone, Miami
Children’s has been able to significantly increase
the demand for their e-card program. This
program allows family and friends to develop
“Get Well” and other types of cards on-line.
These cards are then printed and delivered to
patients once a day. “When our e-card program
was first launched, we received about 10 card
requests per month. Now that we use
SoundCare to promote this service, we receive
130-140 e-card requests per month,” says Diaz
de Villegas.
Miami Children’s marketing success also stems
from their ability to educate people about who
they are and what services they offer. A reporter
calling Miami Children’s about one service, heard
a SoundCare message about another, and ended
up doing a second story as a result of that
message. “If the reporter had not been placed on
hold, he probably would not have learned about
our other service,” says Diaz de Villegas. “Often
times, hearing a message has more of an impact
than just reading it.” |

Winds of Change
Budget constraints and a fast-paced environment are
usually synonymous with healthcare marketing. Savvy
hospital marketers however understand the need to be
flexible in today’s environment. But flexibility often
comes with higher cost and staffing requirements.
SoundCare’s ability to provide cost-effective messages
allows the Miami Children’s marketing team to be
dynamic in their communications with the community.
“SoundCare provides us with promotional messages
we can change every month at a reasonable cost.
We can’t create a print ad, TV, or radio commercial
every month,” adds Diaz de Villegas. “SoundCare fits
in with our marketing mix and supports our marketing
message without taxing our staffing resources.” |
