Happy Employees Can Make A Huge Impact
A sure way to increase everything from corporate revenues to customer satisfaction is to make sure that your employees are happy. I've often said that if the internal customer is happy then the external customer will be happy. It's a great way for hospitals to get a competitive edge in today's healthcare market. I hope you enjoy the article.

Hospitals see results by making employees happy
Employee satisfaction is nice, but ultimately any initiatives to increase the satisfaction levels of workers have to stand up to the same benefit analysis as any other program started by the hospital. So to get the chief financial officer to buy into it, there had better be some bite in the ROI.

Can an increase in satisfaction scores actually decrease expenses and boost revenue? You bet, says Charles "Guy" Orne, CFO of Central Maine HealthCare, which includes Central Maine Medical Center, a 170-staffed-bed tertiary hospital in Lewiston. CMMC began a revenue cycle improvement project in September 2000 with the aid of Stockamp & Associates Inc., a Lake Oswego, Ore. Based consulting firm.

Recognizing Outstanding Employees with SoundCare Reaps Great Rewards for Scotland Health Care System
Scotland Health Care System in Laurinburg, North Carolina is dedicated to delivering high quality and compassionate care, increasing its community's health awareness, and ensuring employees would never want to work anyplace else. While communicating important healthcare information to the community is an important role for Vericom's SoundCare, Scotland Health Care System also sees SoundCare as a very effective tool for increasing employee satisfaction. By recognizing physicians, associates, and volunteers, the System boosts internal morale and lets the community know of the quality and dedication of its staff. An added benefit-Scotland Health Care System has discovered through its employee recognition program that satisfied employees attract patients.

Scotland Health Care System believes in not only rewarding and recognizing associates, but in also working with the associates to help them become better professionals, fueling corporate culture. "We have used SoundCare to highlight our Nurse of the Year and our Allied Professional of the Year Awards programs. Through SoundCare, our community can also call in and comment on physicians who exhibit exemplary compassionate care during our annual Doctor of the Year contest," says Melisa Ciarrocca, Director of Physician Recruitment and Marketing. "By allowing us to recognize employees, SoundCare educates our community about the important individuals who deliver exceptional care in our health system."

Scotland Health Care System heavily markets its physicians to the community and has used SoundCare to promote its outstanding provider directory, which merited an Aster Award in 2005 for excellence in medical advertising. Capitalizing on the educational and promotional opportunities that callers waiting on hold presents, the System has been able to instill confidence in patients and consumers that they are making the right choice as SoundCare delivers important information about physician credentials and experience.

To further increase the effectiveness of their communications, Marketing has used Vericom's SoundView interviews in their monthly on hold programs. "Using the voice of our administration or physicians to communicate directly with callers is very effective. The SoundViews really connect us to our callers. It makes a big difference, and the impact is even greater," says Ciarrocca.

By providing the forum through which Scotland Health Care System can recognize associates, improve communications, and strengthen relationships, SoundCare gives them an edge in attracting more patients. "SoundCare is the thread that ties all of our marketing and communications efforts together," adds Ciarrocca . "It enhances all we are trying to accomplish here at Scotland Health Care System."

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How Can SoundCare Impact Employee Satisfaction?

SoundCare is used by many healthcare organizations to improve employee communications, recognize outstanding accomplishments, highlight anniversaries, recognize individual departments, and more. Imagine the impact that a public "thank you" from the CEO makes to an employee on their 25th anniversary, or how welcome a new employee would feel hearing a message announcing their arrival.

Employees in a hospital setting often spend a fair amount of time waiting on hold when making calls internally. This is the perfect opportunity to recognize those who work hard every day. Whether your message congratulates a nurse for an award she has recently won, thanks a facilities manager for for a job well done during a new construction project, or even recognizes a new physician who just arrived on staff, your employees and staff will know that you value their contributions to your success.
